The Golden Temple is located in Thirumalaikodi, Vellore district, Tamilnadu, India, regarded as the largest golden temple in the world. The entire Golden Temple was conceptualised and designed by Sri Sakthi Amma, through the divine vision. All parts of the main Golden temple are covered completely in gold.The Golden temple has nine to fifteen manually prepared layers of gold foil.The Golden temple is adorned with man-made sculptures, ornately decorated pillars and roof with gold, empanelled with the six different forms of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi on the walls of the Golden Temple.The Golden Temple is situated in a 100 acre lush green landscape in the middle of a star-shaped path, such that it absorbs maximum energy from nature, creates enormous peace and brings relaxation to the devotees who walk through the star path. Devotees walking through the star path are blessed to read messages of truth and righteousness that enables them to realize themselves and transform into powerful beings. The ultimate purpose of the Golden Temple is to establish righteousness and bring transformation in human beings.
People from all walks of life from all over the world visit the Golden Temple, making it one of the largest visited spiritual centres in the world.
The entire Golden Temple was hand-made using over 1.5 tonnes of gold with traditional artisans employing the vedic science of constructing the temple. It took close to 7 years to build the temple by employing over 100 artisans transforming the gold into layers of foil mounted on hand-etched copper plates.
The presiding deity of the Golden Temple is Sri Lakshmi Narayani, the consort of Sri Narayana. It is said in the ancient texts (puranas) that Sri Mahalakshmi resides in Sripuram. Hence the name of
the Golden Temple is Sripuram - Sri Lakshmi Narayani Golden Temple.
The landscape of Sripuram is completely natural, created and managed using organic manure. One feels closest to one's true self in this serene ambience. Water from all the major rivers of the country were brought to create the Ecopond - ''Sarvatheertham''. The creation of this pond has resulted in a wonderful ecosystem for birds and insects, complemented by over 20,000 saplings of various species.
